Arcadia Theater announces auditions for Neil Simon’s Fools.

About:

Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He’s landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives, he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for two hundred years, and Leon’s job is to break the curse.

Audition Process:

Auditioners will perform cold reads from the script.

Child and Youth Safety Information:

Actors must be 18 years old by the first rehearsal.

Rehearsals:

Beginning Saturday, November 22, rehearsals will be Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays; weekday rehearsals are 6:30-9:30 PM and Saturday rehearsals are 10 AM-1 PM.

Tech week is Sunday, February 1, 2026 through Thursday, February 5, 2026, 6-10 PM

Shows are February 6-15, 2026, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30, Saturday at noon and Sunday at 2:00 PM.

No conflicts tech week or show dates.

Roles:

All roles are non-Equity; no pay, no fee. Arcadia Theater encourages diversity when casting shows and encourages all interested actors to audition.

  • Leon Steponovitch Tolchinsky - the protagonist, a young schoolteacher who is sent to Kulyenchikov to teach Sophia. Breaks the fourth wall to narrate the story.

  • Sophia Irena Elenya Zubritsky - Daughter of Dr. Nikolai and Lenya and love interest to Leon.

  • Gregor Mikhailovitch Breznofsky Fyodor Yousekevitch ("Count Gregor") - the antagonist, the last descendant of Vladimir Yousekevitch who cursed Kulyenchikov with idiocy 200 years ago.

  • Dr. Nikolai Zubritsky - Father of Sophia and husband of Lenya. Kulyenchikov's doctor.

  • Lenya Zubritsky - Mother of Sophia and wife of Dr. Nikolai.

  • Something-Something Snetsky - A shepherd known as “the sheep loser”.

  • Mishkin - A young postman.

  • Slovitch - An animal-loving butcher.

  • Yenchna - A sweet but forgetful vendor.

  • Magistrate - Timid judicial officer.
